How long does each insulation last?

The quality of the installation, the type of material used, and the environment all affect how long insulation lasts. The average lifespans of popular insulating materials are provided below:

Fiberglass insulation: If it is not exposed to moisture, bugs, or other harmful elements, fiberglass batts and rolls can last 20 to 30 years or more. Due to settling or compression, fiberglass insulation may become less effective over time.

Insulation made of cellulose: Insulation made of recycled paper normally has a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. However, if exposed to moisture, the material's lifespan may be limited since it may shrink or develop a mold and mildew problem.

Spray foam insulation: Because it adheres directly to surfaces and seals the air, both closed-cell and open-cell spray foam insulation can last up to 50 years or more. These types of insulation don't settle and keep their R-value (insulation efficiency) throughout time.

Mineral wool insulation, commonly referred to as rock wool or slag wool, has a lifespan of 30 to 40 years or longer when not exposed to moisture or other harmful elements. The fire resistance and soundproofing of this material are well known.

Insulation made of polystyrene: Because it resists moisture and retains its insulating qualities over time, expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation can endure for 50 years or longer.

Remember that the actual lifespan of insulation can vary based on things like the caliber of the installation, the atmosphere, and upkeep. To prolong its lifespan and preserve its efficacy, regularly check your insulation for signs of damage, dampness, or pest infestations and take immediate action if necessary.
