The problem: sweating steel

Warm, moist air inside a barn or shop hits a cold steel roof and turns to water. That water condenses on the underside of the panels and drips down onto equipment, stored goods, and everything below. Bare steel and open framing also leak air, so the problem keeps coming back every cold snap.

Closed cell spray foam sprayed directly onto the steel stops the sweating, because warm air can no longer reach the cold metal. It also seals the drafts along the panels, eaves, and framing in the same pass.

Why closed cell for ag buildings

  • PC 2000 closed cell, about R-7.1 per inch. High R-value in a thin layer, even on a metal roof.
  • Moisture resistant. Built for damp, dusty, and humid barn conditions.
  • Stiffens panels. Rigid foam firms up thin steel panels and helps cut down rattling.
  • Fast for tight schedules. We spray quickly so your shop, barn, or poultry house is back in use sooner.

Questions people ask

Do you spray pole barns in New Jersey?

Yes. We're based in farm country in Berks and Lancaster, PA, and we travel throughout South and Central Jersey for pole barns, post-frame shops, horse barns, and poultry houses. Driving a couple of hours to a job is normal for us. Most of our work is within about 150 miles, and we go farther for the right job, including North Jersey and New York.

Why does my steel roof drip, and will foam stop it?

Warm, moist air inside the building condenses on the cold steel and drips. Closed cell spray foam applied directly to the steel keeps that warm air off the metal, which stops the sweating, and it seals drafts at the same time.

Closed cell or open cell for a barn or shop?

For steel buildings and anywhere moisture is a concern, closed cell (PolyCon PC 2000, about R-7.1 per inch) is usually the right call. Open cell (PolyCon PC 450, about R-3.9 per inch) is a good value for some walls and sound control. We'll recommend what fits, and sometimes that's a mix.

Will an owner be on my job?

Yes. We're owner-operated, and an owner is on site for every job. You won't get a crew you've never met.

Is the quote really free? Can builders send plans?

Yes. Quotes are free and there's no obligation. Builders and farm owners can email plans to sunrisevalleycoating@gmail.com and we'll turn around a quote quickly.
